The Human Aspect of Red Teams
Hello Packages, Parsers, and Programs,
Today is four twenty.
One of programming’s magic numbers.
It comes from the minimum size, twenty bytes, of an IPv4 packet.
It’s a nod to how allowing ipv4 traffic into your network leads to a feeling of paranoia.
IPv4 has side effects that distort perception, hence its support for fragmentation.
It may also lead to an altered sense of time and space, which is why we have UDP.
And it influenced appsec’s four-question, twenty-minute threat modeling framework.
So why not take today to sit down with some developers, start a conversation with, “What if…,” and think about threat hardened code.
